Research: Body Image & Dance Training
Hungry 2 Move has partnered with Dr Paul Golz, Senior Lecturer in Dance at the University of Worcester, to explore how vocational and pre-vocational dance training affects the body image of young dancers.
What we're doing
We're running two strands of research:
1. An anonymous online survey - open to dancers aged 18-25, taking around 10 minutes to complete. It explores your feelings and experiences around body image in dance training. All questions are optional, and you can skip anything you're not comfortable with. There are no questions about weight, eating behaviours, or caloric intake.
2. Two creative consultation workshops - held online, these are a space to explore these themes together in a more collaborative, creative way. More details on how to get involved are below.
Who is it for?
We're looking for dancers aged 18-25 who have experience of dance training - whether that's in a vocational or pre-vocational setting. We're hoping to hear from over 100 people, so whether you're a student, recent graduate, or currently training, your voice matters here.
Why take part?
Your experience and perspective could genuinely shape how the dance world approaches training, wellbeing, and body image. The findings will be used to make real recommendations to the dance sector - to help create the safer, more supportive training environments that dancers deserve.
Your data, your safety
All survey responses are completely anonymous. No personally identifiable information is collected. Your data will be stored securely and only accessed by the research team (Dr Paul Golz, Romy Ashmore-Hills, and Lauren Brennan).
If any questions bring up difficult feelings, you don't have to answer them. Our support services page has resources available if you need them.
Get involved
If you are aged 18 - 25 with experience of dance training in any style at any point in your life get involved!
