A Letter to my body

Open Call: A Letter to Your Body - From the Dance World

We’re inviting dancers of all styles, levels, and backgrounds to take part in a powerful creative research project as part of Hungry 2 Dance.

We want to hear from you, through a personal letter written to your body.

This is an opportunity to reflect, express, and release. To honour your body, challenge old beliefs, or simply tell the truth of your experience as a dancer living in your body.

What To write

Your letter can be as short or as long as you like. You might write to your whole body, or to a specific part that holds meaning for you.

You could include:

  • The things you’ve wanted to change or hide

  • Parts you’ve celebrated or relied on

  • Where those insecurities came from - dance studios, mirrors, comments, costumes, culture

  • Moments of gratitude - what your body has carried, endured, or achieved

  • How dance has shaped your relationship with your body - for better, for worse, or both

There’s no right way to do this - just be honest, be you.

Dear Feet,
You’ve blistered, bled, and bruised more times than I can count. I used to hate how wide you looked in pointe shoes. But you never gave up on me - you carried me through every rehearsal, every stage. I owe you so much. Thank you for being stronger than I ever gave you credit for.
With love,
Me

To my stomach - the bit of fat sitting on top.

I’m so sorry I demonised you all these years. I was scared of you. But you stayed. You held me. You were never the problem.

I tried to lose you, hide you, breathe you away. I’m sorry.

Love from Me.

To My Thighs,
I spent years trying to shrink you. I covered you in baggy clothes and cursed you in the mirror. But you are powerful. You helped me jump, land, turn, and glide. You’ve given me freedom. I see that now. I’m trying to love you, not just tolerate you.
Thank you for staying with me.
Love,
Me xxx
