Dancing Hands Touching

Join the Steering Group for Hungry 2 Dance.
A creative action research project reimagining the future of dance training.

We’re inviting dance professionals, educators, researchers, and those with lived-experience of dance training to be part of the Steering Group for Hungry 2 Dance—a creative action research project funded by Arts Council England.

Running from May to October 2025, Hungry 2 Dance explores the relationship between vocational dance training and body imagethrough the eyes of young dancers themselves.

Through a mix of creative workshops, focus groups, and survey research, the project places young people at the centre of the conversation, uncovering the often-unspoken pressures they face and co-creating pathways toward lasting, inclusive change.

Why Join the Steering Group?

This group will act as a critical friend and sounding board across the life of the project—offering insight, perspective, and guidance. Your voice will help shape:

  • Our research focus and approach

  • The way we hold space for young dancers’ stories

  • The creative and practical outputs we develop

  • How findings are shared with the wider dance sector

You don’t need to be an academic or have previous experience in research—just a genuine interest in young people’s wellbeing in dance, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive change.

Our Core Aims:

  • To open up honest, supported conversations about body image in dance

  • To amplify young dancers' voices in shaping the future of dance training

  • To develop creative, practical tools that support positive body image in dance schools and training environments

  • To contribute research that informs real change in policy and practice

This is more than a conversation—it’s a call to action.

If you're interested in getting involved or would like to find out more, we’d love to hear from you. We're welcoming both individuals and those from organisations to take part.

We plan to have 2 online meetings (likely via Zoom or similar):

  • May 13th 11-12:30

  • August Date TBC

We have a small amount of budget to reimburse costs up to £30, for those who may need financial support to attend.
